Total lockdown in Chennai and 3 other districts
The Tamil Nadu government has announced complete lockdown of Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur districts from June 19 to June 30 owing to the increasing COVID 19 cases and fatality cases in the mentioned districts. The announcement was made after Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami consulted with the health experts committee.
Guidelines for complete lockdown in Tamil Nadu districts:
Grocery shops, vegetable shops, petrol bunks, and mobile markets will operate between 6.00 am and 2.00 pm. People can travel only within 2 km from their house to reach markets and other essential shops.
Hospitals, pharmacies, will remain open, ambulances services are allowed
The lorries transporting essentials are allowed to travel.
Autos, taxi cabs are allowed to operate only for medical emergencies.
Amma Unavagams and community kitchens for orphans will continue to function.
State government departments providing essential services like public health, police, etc., and the central government department can work with a 33% workforce. Employees from the containment zone need not go to the office.
Banks will function only on June 29 and 30 with a 33% workforce. ATM services will be available during this lockdown.
Public Distribution shops (PDS) will remain open between 8 am to 2 pm. PDS shops c in the containment zones will not function. Rations and the relief amount will be door delivered to the people from containment areas.
Hotels and restaurants can function from 6 am to 8 pm with parcel services. Tea shops cannot function. Delivery of food through phone orders will be allowed.
NGOs and Charitable organisations are allowed to operate after obtaining permission from local officers.
Print and electronic media can function.
Judges and Courts are also permitted to function.
Construction companies providing lodging for labourers inside the site can function for the next 12 days.
Employees of industries staying inside or near a company are allowed to function for the next 12 days if they undergo a RT PCR test. Employees are not allowed to travel every day. The Continuous process industries and Industries manufacturing essential commodities can function by taking adequate safety precautions.
E-passes will be provided for people requesting to travel out of Chennai only for events like weddings, deaths, and medical emergencies.
For those coming to these four districts from outside the state through air, trains, and ships, the present norms will be applicable.
The districts will observe complete lockdown on Sundays June 21 and 28 where no essential services will be operated. The services will resume on the following Mondays.
