NGO reaches out to migrant workers

Updated: Apr 8

‘Save Chennai Beaches’ along with Sumanasa Foundation have been working on a variety of causes during this lockdown period. From providing provision for migrant labourers and the Corporation to distributing food packets to the homeless on streets, they are in all of it.

Sharadha Shankar from ‘Save Chennai Beaches’ explains, “We have field workers to help us identify genuine cases, like when we were informed by one of our volunteers about migrant workers at Kanathur. We immediately arranged for provisions for them.”

Apart from working directly with the migrants, the team has also been helping the Corporation and other NGOs like Eco-kitchen to procure provisions. The team has collaborated with the Tamilnadu Departmental stores for the procurement of all provisions and sanitary products.

They work with the Bhoomika Trust from whose community kitchen they procure food packets to be distributed amongst the homeless. They also provide any volunteering work for senior citizens.
