Koyambedu Market to be open only for wholesalers
After a series of meetings with government officials and various traders associations, CMDA on April 28 announced that Koyambedu market complex will be open only to the wholesalers. The meeting was held after reports of positive COVID 19 cases in the market.
D.Karthikeyan, Member Secretary, CMDA said that the fruits and vegetable markets will be shifted to Madhavaram bus terminus, from April 30. He added that CMDA has devised a plan for operations like entry and exit of vehicles, vegetables loading and unloading, and movement of traders, to avoid crowding.
Karthikeyan further explained that the vegetable retail trade will be carried out at the places allotted by the Chennai Corporation. The Corporation recently stated that they have finalised places like open grounds, bus terminus and other public places to operate vegetable markets, where people could maintain social distancing.
The Chennai Corporation has sent a mobile medical unit to the Market’s premises to check the workers for COVID 19, on April 28.
